Machico civil parish is situated in the northeastern part of Madeira Island.
Administratively, it is governed from the municipal seat in the city of Machico, and comprises 5 parishes, namely Água de Pena, Caniçal, Machico, porto da Cruz and Santo António da Serra.
Its main economic activities include a lot of trade and services. In addition, there are numerous high quality hotel and catering units.
Today, Machico has about 12 thousand inhabitants in an area of 67.71 km2.
Climate is somewhat variable, but temperatures are very stable all year round.
