This bust celebrates the first air journey between Portugal mainland and Madeira Island, by the aviators Gago Coutinho, Sacadura Cabral and Ortins de Betencourt, accompanied by their mechanic, Soubiran.
 
The journey was first attempted on October 18, 1920, and was finally completed on the March 23, 1921. The bust, in bronze, is located on the South part of the Santa Catarina Park, in Funchal.
