Quinta das Hortensias is a traditional and restored typical Madeiran home set, located in Arco de São Jorge, a very agreeable area with amenable microclimate, on the north Coast of Madeira Island. Traditional arts and crafts, fine embroidery and a touch of comfortable homely ambience inspired the warmth and well lit interiors of the houses. Their panoramic Ocean Atlantic view, the Laurissilva Forest, Madeira´s UNESCO Heritage Protected Forest, and  their Idyllic gardens and green surroundings are a powerful invitation to spend peaceful holidays, away from noisy towns.

These traditional architecture buildings, originally family vineyard houses, had been converted into coziest and typical homes for Tourism in the rural area. The property includes accommodation in a fine and confortable bed and breakfast establishment (Casa das Hortênsias) in double and twin bedrooms with private bathroom, and several cottages/apartments with a fully-equipped Kitchenette, private and furnished balcony, garden and view of the sea and mountain (Agapanthus, Lírios do Campo, Fuchsia and Rosa Maria). Each room or apartment has its own private well equipped and well lit bathroom. The carefully hand painted tiles in the bathrooms were inspired by the local flowers. In the main house (B&B) the two double beds have sea view and the bedroom with two large twin beds have Mountain View. All the apartments/bungalows have sea view. Old antique furniture and well preserved clothing cabinets, bed side lamps and homemade drapes accomplish a texture of authentic Madeiran taste unlike any other seen in many of the Madeiran bed and breakfast establishments.

A confortable lounge in basaltic rocks with sofas and a fireplace is also a part of the property where guest can enjoy a book or the scenic Ocean Atlantic view. Also here Quinta das Hortensias (B&B) offers a generous and hearty breakfast served with freshly baked home-made breads, natural orange juice, cheeses and condiments, which can be enjoyed by the apartment guests too. Local restaurant is avalaible within a 10 mn walk, most serving the area´s traditional food (fish and meat). Alternatively, apartment’s guests may choose to stay in and cook their own meals in the equipped kitchenette. Visitors can also try at Casa das Hortênsias a traditional «Poncha» drink, Madeira Wine and the famous honey cake. A barbecue, TV  and free Wi-Fi are available in all the areas. Heating is available in cooler months and pets are also welcome. The nearest beach is a mere 15 mn from the houses. All units are serviced three twice a week. Everything is well preserved, clean and ordered. Quinta das Hortensias offers too an equipped apartment/bungalow with facilities for guests with disabilities.

Quinta das Hortênsias is exactly on the middle of the northern coast of the island and it is ideal for hiking and to discover the original culture and traditions of old Madeira and to explore the northern coast and enjoy its landscapes. Surrounding it there are many places to be visited such the Rosegarden (5 mn), The famed S. Vicente caves (30 mn), the natural swimming pool in Porto Moniz (40 mn), «Levadas» Walks, the famous S. Jorge Church (15 mn), Santana (30 mn) or visit Funchal which is a 45-minute drive. Madeira International Airport is 35 minutes’ drive.
