This islet has rich limestone mines. The slopes are perforated by caverns, givng way to countless galleries to be scanned.

Between the islet and Ponta da Calheta, lies the 400 metres wide Boqueirão de Baixo, which is the only navigable by small ships, and when the sea is calm.
