Ilha civil parish is situated in the northern part of Madeira Island, just 745 meters away from Santana municipality. Ilha is one of the six civil parishes of Santana municipality. 

Ilha is the smallest parish in population (about 400 inhabitants), the second smallest in area and the smallest in density, in Santana. This parish has an area of about 15 km2. 

It has a pleasant weather during summer, but harsher during winter.

The main economic activity of this parish is agriculture, with 90% share of the activity, and where there is a lot of mobilisation of young farmers. Other activities include building construction, granite mining industry, as well as small trade and services.
