Madeira Island has many pebbled and a few natural sandy beaches.

Calheta has a lovely man-made beach with goldan sand, bars, toilets and changing rooms. Besides, there are also first-aid facilities and a big marina.

This beach is appreciated by many locals and tourists, not only beacuse of its crystal waters, but also because it offers visitors a wide choice of nautical sports.

Its yellow sand was brought mainy from Morocco and from Figueira da Foz (mainland Portugal).
